Darin Fred Duersch

LOGAN–Darin F. Duersch, 45, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes, Monday, December 3, 2012. He was born to goodly parents, Fred Duersch, Jr. and Geraldine Grandy Duersch, on January 25, 1967 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later moved to Logan, Utah. He was the big brother to Kevin, Sharla and Janalyn, making many fond memories as he teased and loved them. He attended Logan City Schools, graduating in 1985. He played the piano, painted, and played football and basketball. He earned his Eagle Scout and served in the Order of the Arrow. He attended USU, taking a 2 year break to serve in the Brazil Campinas Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Always an Aggie, he continued his education upon his return, receiving a bachelor's degree first in Fisheries & Wildlife, and a second in Civil Engineering. He met and married Julie Hall in the Logan LDS Temple in 1989 and they became the proud parents of Hannah, Austin, Molly, Jason and Ryan, now ranging in age from 17 to 8. He took great joy in spending time with his family, sharing his love of learning and his many hobbies and interests with them. They took many family trips to Yellowstone National Park, spotting bears. He shared his love of music with regular "Duersch Family Music Nights!" They watched movies that made them laugh and cry. They hiked the hills and trails of Cache Valley on Triple-F forced family fun outings and took frequent Sunday "walks" to see the grandparents! They visited with veterans, attended air shows and learned a love of country. And they attended Aggie football and basketball games learning the Aggie fight song and The Scotsman by heart! As the children grew, he got involved in teaching them a love of basketball. He coached all but his youngest through many seasons of Junior Jazz, and later competitive league play. He didn't miss a practice, and expected all his players to work hard and would point out their success as they did. Whether it was basketball or later football, the kids he coached became "his kids" and he rejoiced as he noted their success beyond the game! When his daughters later chose swimming as their sport, he wholeheartedly embraced their passion, learning about each stroke, and cheering them on as they dropped time in their events. That love of sport was an opportunity to teach his children the importance of being "all in" in any endeavor they undertook...of working hard and seeing the success that came with that hard work. He used those lessons to translate to the other areas of their lives including teaching them the importance of living gospel principles and striving for success in school and at home. He worked as a Civil Engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation after college, and spent 15 years not only striving to serve the public but those around him. His greatest joy in work was his relationship with the people he served alongside. They truly became his friends. As an engineering manager, he chose the Savior as his leadership role model. Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully in scouting, Primary, Young Mens, Sunday School, and later as ward clerk. Whatever he did, he was "all in." He is survived by his wife Julie, children Hannah, Austin, Molly, Jason and Ryan, parents Fred and Geri Duersch, and siblings Kevin, Sharla Mark Beverly, and Janalyn. He is also survived by his parents-in-law Hyrum and Nancy Hall, sisters-in-law Annalee Ray Andrew, Charlotte Chris Hansen, Susan Matt Roylance, and Naomi Hall as well as his nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 12 noon in the Hillcrest 1st Ward Chapel 875 N 1500 E, Logan with a viewing held Thursday, December 6 from 6-8 pm at Nelson Funeral Home 162 E 400 N, Logan and from 10:30-11:30 am on Friday at the Hillcrest 1st Ward. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
