Tremonton - Daniel Joseph Franks, 46, died September 19, 2003, at his home in Tremonton, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on January 17, 1957, in Brooklyn New York, the son of Donald and Virginia Leonard Franks. He was the eldest of seven children. Dan moved west after High School to "make his fortune". His first job was in Evanston, Wyoming in the Oil Fields. In 1980 in that wild western town met his equally wild and wonderful wife, Martha Taylor on June 20, 1981 in Tremonton. They moved to Tremonton after the birth of their son Charles Joseph Franks in 1983. Their daughter Danielle Virginia Franks was born in 1986. He was very proud of both of his children and all of their accomplishments. Dan decided that becoming a farmer was safer than being a roughneck in the Oil Fields of Wyoming. Even though he was not born to the land and was not of the west, he was a natural. Dan became a student and then a teacher of ancient Native Americans and their culture. He spent many hours researching their lives. Dan was a hockey fanatic and he loved watching all sports. He could talk to anyone about any sport. He was an avid outdoorsman. Dan was interested in talking to people and always made them feel special. Dan loved children and they loved him because he was a kid at heart. His wife, Martha, of Tremonton, a son Charles, daughter Danielle, his parents and five brothers and a sister all from Long Island, New York Island, survives Dan. He will be dearly missed by many of his friends and family. A memorial vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, 2003 and visitation will follow from 6:30 -8:00 p.m. at Rogers & Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton.
