Thatcher-Our kind and loving father passed away in the loving arms of family at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden, UT on Friday, May 27, 2011 after fulfilling his earthly mission with dignity and strength.
He was born on January 21, 1919 along with his twin brother Dean, to John Erle and Reta Compton in Tremonton, UT. Thatcher, UT was his home and the beginning of a wonderful journey for twin boys growing up and farming with their father.
Dale graduated from Bear River High School and attended Utah State University. He joined the Army in 1944 which took him to Luzon, Philippines and Bajio, Japan with the 32nd Infantry – Red Arrow Division. It was with great pride he served his country in WW II.
On March 5, 1947 he married a striking brunette from Corinne, UT named Glenda Wood and solemnized their union in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had three daughters, Camille, Tamra and Lora Lee. He worked farms and raised cattle in Thatcher and also in Blue Creek and at the same time worked at the Sugar Factory in Garland, and then later at Thiokol in Promontory.
Dale was meticulous and loved his yard. He would spend hours making it an immaculate show piece. He also took great pride in his many church positions especially his work in the Logan LDS Temple where he met many lifelong friends. He was very devoted and loyal to the Lord and his family. He endeared himself to many with his gentle nature and sense of humor.
He took great pride in their three daughters, Camille Wid Carver, Tamra Call and fiancée Dan Corcoran, Lora Lee Del Nelson. He and Glenda had nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda and his brother Dean. The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home and all those that have cared for Dale for their loving care and friendship.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thatcher-Penrose Ward Chapel 11475 West 10400 North, Thatcher, UT. Friends may call Wednesday at the church prior to the services from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Bothwell Valley view Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
