Craig Patrick Hooton

November 23, 1953 — March 11, 2011

Craig Patrick Hooton, of Hyrum Utah, returned to live with his Heavenly Father on Friday, March 11, 2011. He was 57 years old. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, November 23, 1953, to Milton and Frances Hooton, Craig was an excellent student and graduated as Valedictorian from Union High School in Union Oregon. Craig chose to serve an LDS mission and was called to the Arizona, Tempe mission. He faithfully served his 2 years teaching and touching the lives of countless individuals and families. After beginning his education at BYU, he transferred to Eastern Oregon State College where he earned his BS in Accounting, studying and working hard to further his education and completed the testing to become a CPA. Although his career spanned everything from hospital administration, business administration, and self employment, he finally found his true calling in becoming a teacher. Craig taught Accounting, Business, and Healthcare Administration courses at Stevens Henager College in Logan, Utah. He had a genuine love of teaching and working with his students to further their education. He shared in his student's successes and their challenges and loved the opportunity to offer a helping hand in any way he could. Craig held several callings in the LDS church, but enjoyed his opportunities to serve with the youth the most. He was a gifted teacher, with the ability to make just about any subject interesting and keep everyone involved. His love of teaching was felt at home where he was quick to help with homework or any other teaching opportunity that his 4 sons presented to him. He had a great love for the outdoors and loved to take his family camping, fishing and hunting as often as time would allow. Some of our fondest memories are of simply sitting around a campfire and swapping stories all through the night. Craig is survived by his wife, Tamra Hill Hooton, his mother Frances Hooton Baxter and his sister Judy Prawitt of Sandy, Utah and brother Monte Hooton of Union Oregon; his step sister Colleen Langford of Union Oregon and step brother Ferrel Baxter of Baker City Oregon; his 4 sons, Jason, Michael, Nicholas and Casey; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Milton Hooton, step father Reynolds Baxter, and step sister Betty Dunham. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 18, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hyrum North Stake Center, 245 North 750 East. There will be a visitation on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and at the Church on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Hyrum Cemetery.Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
