Corinne Godfrey Heggie

October 19, 1911 — January 3, 2006

Corinne Godfrey Heggie passed away on January 3, 2006. She was born October 19, 1911 in Clarkston, Utah, the fifth child in a family of two sisters and five brothers. Her sister Ann recalls her arrival in these words, ?October smiled in golden tones and I was happy, for Grandfather had just told us we had a little sister.? She was the daughter of Thomas H. Godfrey and Lucy Ellen Barson. She attended Clarkston School were she was the valedictorian of her class upon graduation from 8th grade. She then graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah and went on to receive a normal diploma teaching certificate from the Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah. She taught school in Clarkston, Newton and Hyrum, Utah. She married Andrew L. Heggie, May 23, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 63 years. One son, Don Andrew was born into their family and died the same day. They had no other children. Corinne was active in the LDS church and was involved in many ward and stake organizations. She taught the children of Clarkston in the Primary and Sunday School for fifty-five years. She and her husband served in the East German mission between 1953-1955. She is preceded in by her husband, two sisters and four brothers. She is survived her brother, LaVar Godfrey, his wife Lona Mae Kaysille and her sister-in-laws Kathryn Godfrey Clarkston, Sarah Heggie Providence, Verda Heggie Providence, special nieces, nephews, many kind and thoughtful friends, including Rena Goodey, Mary Godfrey and Blake & Katrina Smith. She and Andrew were ?Grandpa and Grandma? to John D. and Faye Laudie and their six children, American Fork. Corinne was a generous and kind person, always helping the sick, feeding and clothing the poor, and living her religion in a practical way every day. She will be greatly missed by many. The family wishes to thank IHC Home Care and IHC Hospice, especially Dodie and Adele for the wonderful care given to Corinne. The funeral will be held on January 7th, 11:00 a.m. at the Clarkston LDS Ward Chapel, 25 East 100 South. A viewing will begin at 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the Relief Society room. Interment will be in the Clarkston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may contribute to the Andrew and Corinne Heggie Scholarship Fund, Utah State University, Logan, Utah.
