Coretta Thilda May Eyre-Mitchell, age 8, died on November 15, 2023, in London, England, due to complications from an underlying heart condition.
Cora joined a family of musician parents and four adoring older siblings in Carlsbad, California in May, 2015. She became the heartbeat of her home from the moment she was born, and her heart condition, an enlargement of the heart, seemed to express itself as a heightened ability to love and be loved by all who knew her.
Cora spent her eight years of life exploring the world, visiting six countries and over twenty U.S. states, and living in California, South Carolina, and Virginia before moving with her family to London in 2022.
Everywhere she went, Cora made people smile. She had friends of all ages who adored her. Her older siblings’ friends all knew her well, and she spent hours creating plays and musical productions with friends at school and in the neighborhood. Cora brought endless amounts of joy with her mischievous giggles, long hugs, songs, and silly sense of humor.
From the moment she was born, Cora played a very central role in her family and, as the fifth of six children, she had a special relationship with each of her siblings. At 18 months old, Cora became a big sister to her best friend and “Twinkles” buddy, Ella. The two were practically inseparable and were frequently dressed in matching outfits, always ready to strike a pose for the camera or steal their mom’s phone to take silly selfies.
Cora was always full of surprises, but she could also be predictably found cuddling her parents or siblings and popping in over a shoulder on FaceTime calls with family. Cora loved her family more than anything and looked forward with eager anticipation to time spent together as a family, especially during the Christmas holidays.
Cora loved to create. She liked drawing, writing, singing, and using her imagination to come up with exciting new ways to share her inner world with those around her. At school, she excelled in every subject and especially loved reading. Though she also enjoyed dancing and gymnastics, as her heart condition took a greater toll on her activity levels, she could be found reading long books, building imaginative worlds in Minecraft, watching Taylor Swift and Harry Styles music videos, and making music videos of her own, complete with props and choreography.
Cora was also the bravest of little girls. Instead of getting discouraged about some of her health restrictions, Cora wrote endless notes of inspiration for herself and her siblings. Sticky notes with, “It’s possible if you try!” “Don’t give up!” and “Believe in yourself!” were just some of the messages she left for herself and others that still hang in her room for her little sister.
Although her life was shorter than some, Cora’s impact will long outlive those she knew. Her family feels blessed to know that upon her passing, Cora is reunited with her beloved Grandfather, “Papa” Kevan Eyre, who preceded her in death.
Cora is survived by her parents, Brittani and Aaron, and her five siblings, Asher, Adelaide, Emerson, Seraphina, and Eleanore.
A funeral will be held to celebrate the life of Cora on Saturday, December 16, at the Nelson Funeral Home in Logan, Utah. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cora Memorial Fund at the One World Children’s Foundation:
