Coravine Ottley Sawyer

Logan ? Coravine Ottley Sawyer, 77, passed away after a valiant struggle with cancer on Thursday, October 17, 2002. She was born April 4, 1925, to David Frank and Margaretha Anne Thompson Ottley. She was born and raised in Magna, Utah, attending the local schools and graduating from Cyprus High School. She attended the University of Utah Nursing School at the old Salt Lake County Hospital, graduating with her RN in 1948. In 1949 she moved to Minneapolis to work in a special polio unit at the State Hospital. Once the need for special nurses was over, she transferred to the University of Minnesota Hospital, at which time she was introduced to her future and loving husband, Archie. She returned to Salt Lake and was married to Archie Wesley Sawyer on June 23, 1951. Together they lived in Pocatello for a brief time and then settled in Logan to raise their family. Cory was employed at the Sunshine Terrace and retired after 22 years of dedicated and joyful service. She volunteered at the Logan Senior Citizens Center and helped to earn money for the Senior Citizens Center expansion. She also volunteered to giving flu shots to shut ins throughout the valley. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and participated in various callings throughout the years, including Relief Society teacher, serving on the Stake Relief Society Board, councilor in the Relief Society at Sunshine Terrrace, visiting teacher and den mother in the cub scout program. Cory is survived by her husband, Archie; a son, Wesley David Debi Sawyer, Salt Lake City; Rebecca Roland Oliver, South Jordan; and Rosemary Gary Johnson, Hyrum; 15 grandchildren and 3 grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister: Thirza Hardy Jenkinson. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: John Grayson Ella Ottley, Milan Edward Arva Ottley; Alton Huber; Buddy Vern Ottley, and one sister: Margaret Jim Ottley McCloy. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 21, 2002 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, with Bishop Jens Trauntvein conducting. Friends and family may call Sunday evening, October 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
