Cora Louisa Roberts Hartshorn

April 13, 1908 — October 4, 2007

Logan - Cora Louise Roberts Hartshorn, 99, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007. She was born April 13, 1908 in Republic, Michigan to William Henry and Louisa Mitchell Roberts. She was the second daughter of three girls born to this family?the first having died before Cora was born. When Cora?s younger sister, Grace, was born their mother died. They were later blessed with a dear stepmother, Beatrice Tonkin. In the summer of 1920, the Roberts family moved, driving their old fashioned Studebaker from Michigan to California. Since there were no motels in those days, they pitched a tent at night and slept by the muddy roadside. They built a house in Pasadena and Cora continued her education. After a time, she became acquainted with a neighbor boy who invited she and her girlfriend to ride to school with him each day. She, in turn, invited him to go to church with her?and so began an eternal companionship. After a three year engagement, they were married New Year?s Eve just as 1930 came in. Cora and Glen were never blessed with children of their own, but their niece and nephew were richly blessed with the love they would have showered on their own children?if they could have had them. In 1955 they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and on November 5, 1956 they were sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Late in 1977 they moved to Logan to be near Cora?s sister and family. They found a house with a nice yard where Glen could enjoy his garden. Glen passed away in March of 1978. Cora worked at various places during her life and was always a kind, loving friend to her co-workers. Many friendships have lasted through the years to the present day. When her eyesight permitted Cora loved many kinds of needle work and made many lovely pieces of work the family treasures today. She enjoyed reading and spent many hours researching her genealogy and doing temple work for her family. She spent much time in her yard and had lovely flowers every summer. She is survived by a niece, Marion Dennis R. Peterson, Logan; and a nephew, Robert Randi Snow, Payson, Arizona; 7 great nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Glen, and a sister, Grace L. Snow. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, October 8, 2007 at the Logan 23rd Ward chapel, 565 East 100 South. Friends and family may call at the church prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com . The family wishes to extend special appreciation to the staff at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the tender and loving care they gave to Cora.
