Clyde Addison Best Jr.

Clyde Addison Best Jr. returned home to his Heavenly Father earlier this week. He was born to Clyde A. Best Sr. and Esther Smith November 21, 1959 in San Diego, California. Clyde graduated from Superior High School as Valedictorian where he met and married his high school sweetheart Paula Merseal on January 12, 1980 in Superior, Montana. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple. He graduated from the University of Idaho with Honors and a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was commissioned an Officer in the United States Navy and served for seven years. Clyde and Paula moved to Cache Valley in 1988 where they have resided in Smithfield since then.
Clyde worked at Campbell Scientific for the past ten years and has many "family" members there, who will miss him dearly. Clyde loved his work, and made time for everyone even when the work day was not long enough. Many customers throughout the world personally requested his assistance. Clyde was a board member of BARC Ham Radio Club where he administered testing and assisted those on the net. Clyde will be a "silent key" whose traffic was always appreciated.
Clyde and his family are members of the LDS church where Clyde had many callings with his favorite being missionary work and attending the temple. Clyde's own mission will now be never ending.
Clyde is survived by his soul mate and wife Paula, who have celebrated 23 1/2 years as husband and wife. Clyde and Paula are the parents of five beautiful children, who were the constant light and ray of hope; they are Lance Corporal Scott Addison of MCAS Futenma, Okinawa Japan; Nathan Tanner of Logan; Bryan Edward, Natalie Marie and Emily Joann of Smithfield. Clyde and Paula "adopted" many of their children's friends and cousins into their home where laughter and joy were constant. Tyson, Megan, Darrell, Mariah along with many other children. Clyde was the oldest child and is survived by sister Kim John Chavez and sons Trevor and Daniel of California; brother Cash Cheryl Best and sons C.J. and Beau of Washington; sister Troyce E'Kate Best of Idaho; brother Courtney Mylene Best and son Jeremey of California; sister Millie Ben Boychuck and son Ben IV of California; brother Daniel and son Gabriel of California; sister-in-laws Kelly Dubé - Woodard and children Jesica and Tanner Dubé; Linda Jeff Peterson and sons Mike and Kyle all of Montana; his mother Esther Best of Montana; father Clyde Sr. Kathy Best of California; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ed and Joann Merseal of Montana and his grandmother, Minnie Best of California and many aunts and uncles. He is also survived by special cousins, Jerry and Yvette Weeks and their four children, Dee, Carl, Debbie and Michelle. Janet and Stan Hall and their children Amy, Colby, Kirsten, Alicia and Preston. Clyde was preceded in death by two grandpas, one grandma and one uncle. Clyde's family would like to thank friends, co-workers, and neighbors for the never ending words of encouragement, love and support with a special thanks to Campbell Scientific and Boyd Bringhurst, BARC Ham Radio Club and Beanie Lofthouse, Smithfield 14th Ward, Dixie Bassett and Sandy Grossman.
Clyde loved and appreciated the beauty of flowers but believed they should be viewed in their natural state. Therefore, anyone wishing to make donations may do so to Wells Fargo Bank, Clyde Best Memorial fund, arranged by Campbell Scientific, or to NAMI Utah - Cache Valley Affiliate, 610 E. 2330 N., North Logan, UT 84341.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003 at the Smithfield 14th ward chapel, 345 East 300 South. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be extended online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
