Clinton Leland Liechty "Clint" passed away peacefully the morning of February 7th at the VA Hospital after a 12-year courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born Dec 31, 1925 in Providence, Utah to Walter Liechty and Hilda Kendrick Liechty. He attended Providence Elementary and South Cache High School. An army veteran of World War II, Clint did his training in Texas and Oklahoma and was assigned to the 97th Infantry Division. They were shipped out to France to participate in the invasion of Germany. Through Divine Providence and a kindly German family, he and his companion were spared capture. They fought their way to Czechoslovakia, helped with the clean-up at Dachaw concentration camp and the Philippine Islands, and were part of the first group of troops in the occupation of Japan. He continued his military service as a member of the Army Reserves for 26 years, finally retiring in 1986 at the age of 60. He met Mada Hulse of Smithfield two months after returning from the war, and they were married on May 20, 1947. Clint worked for Utah State University for 14 years in various maintenance areas. He then started his own business "Clint's Landscape & Nursery" in 1960, which he ran until 1997 most of which with the able-assistance of his son, Clayne. Landscaping was a great love of his, and he greatly enjoyed beautifying many areas across the states of Utah and Idaho by his given talents. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Mada H. Liechty; his two sons- Clinton Lynn Liechty Carol and Clayne Ray Liechty Kathy, and daughter Cheryl Higbee Jim; his three brothers- Seymour Liechty Arlene, Milton Liechty Marilyn, and Dean Liechty Joan; 12 grandchildren and 19 ½ great grandchildren. He was a gentle man, loved dearly by family and friends. The family wishes to express their most sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the VA Nursing Home, the VA hospice staff, and the LDS VA Nursing Home Branch presidency and their sweet wives. They each served Clint with Christlike compassion and caring. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 12th at the Nelson Funeral Home at 162 East 400 North in Logan there will be no viewing. Interment will be at the Smithfield Cemetery.
