Cleston Larry Payne

April 29, 1943 — March 14, 2007

Cleston Larry Payne died on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 in Ogden, Utah, of heart failure. He was born on April 29, 1943 in Trenton, Utah to Cecil G. and Luella Thompson Payne. He attended Trenton Elementary School, Lewiston Jr. High, and graduated in 1961 from North Cache High School. During his life, Cleston worked as a retail grocery clerk, a florist, and as a manager at Weber State University in food service for several years before he became disabled. Music was a big part of Cleston?s life. He sang with the North Cache a cappella choir, in the high school musicals, and at various functions in the area. He loved working with flowers and used that talent over the years to prepare floral arrangements for weddings and funerals as well as helping many friends with their yard work, especially the widows he knew. He was an accomplished bridge player and participated in competition bridge tournaments for many years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, LaNay Bright; and a great nephew, Jeremy Payne. He is survived by his brothers: Cecil N. Joyce Payne and Lynn G. Glenna Payne from Trenton and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 24, at 11:00 a.m. in the Trenton, Utah Cemetery. Cremation was provided by Nelson Funeral Home. We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lynn Eskelson, his staff, and the nursing staff at Franklin County Medical Center for their many hours of dedicated service and care.
