Carl Burnett

Carl Burnett, 90, of Logan died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 8, 2002. He was born April 2, 1912, in Plymouth, Utah, the 7th child of Joseph William and Edith Maud Silvester Burnett. His early years were spent in Plymouth, Utah and Holbrook, Idaho working on the family farm. He was educated in Holbrook and Malad, Idaho. He learned the value of hard work at an early age and practiced this throughout his life. He married Valerie Hardman on December 3, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with two daughters. In 1939, they moved to Midvale, Utah where for 7 years, he operated a large dry farm for Landes Tractor Company. He started his own trucking business in 1946 buying and selling grain. They moved to Brigham City in 1956 where he continued his business for 35 years. He was also employed by Evans Grain and Elevator Company of Ogden as a grain buyer. After his retirement, he and Valerie moved to Logan and spent their winters in St. George. He was a high priest in the LDS church, had a strong testimony, and held many callings over the years. He found great joy and proudly served as a ward clerk for 10 years and stake clerk for 8 years. He received the greatest joy from his family and never tired of the visits from children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Valerie of Logan; two daughters, Gwen Oakeson Ken, Brigham City, and Dalene Hansen Reid, Farmington; one brother, Jim Burnett, St. George, and a sister, Joan Brady, Pingree, Idaho; 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 1 sister and a grandson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Brigham City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
