Tremonton -- Carl Stewart Borup, 91, died Saturday, August 30, 2003 at McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, of causes incident to age. He was born January 20, 1912, in Manard, Idaho, to Peter Phillip and Myrtle Caroline Stewart Borup. He married Elizabeth Moss December 6, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Borup was reared
and educated in Minnidoka County, Idaho, where he graduated from seminary in 1931. He lived in Burley, Boise, New Plymouth, Provo, and has resided in Tremonton for the past 38 years. Mr. Borup and his late wife were partners with the late Don Borup and his wife, Evelyn, in the family grocery business since 1945. They retired as owners in 1992. They had stores in Boise, New Plymouth, Rupert, Provo, Tremonton, North Logan, Blackfoot, Preston, Smithfield, Rexburg, and Ammon. He was very dedicated to humanitarian causes--actively serving as District Governor of Lions Int., President of Bear River Chamber of Commerce, served on the Tremonton City Council, and chaired the Bear River Hospital Building Fund. He was an active member of the Tremonton Fourth LDS Ward serving as member of the Seventies Quorum for 35 years, and was a High Priest. He served an LDS mission to England as well as missions with his late wife to Roanoke, VA, and several Stake Missions. Carl and Elizabeth sponsored youth exchange students from South America. In addition, Carl and Don Borup families sponsored Cambodian and Vietnamese refugees--one family still lives in Tremonton and works for Carl and Don's, the other moved to California, but still keeps in close contact. The children all call him grandpa. During his years of retirement, he enjoyed traveling throughout the world and liked visiting local Lions Clubs wherever he went. Surviving are one son and two daughters: Jerry Dodie Borup, Ogden; Carla Burton Johnson,
Tremonton; and Myrtle the late Daniel T. Gallego, Ogden; 29 grandchildren, and 83 great- grandchildren. All of his grandchildren loved to visit grandpa because he always had interesting stories and a two-dollar bill for each. He loved to sing to his grandchildren their favorite song "The Missouri Mule." He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; one son, Philip Edward Borup, his parents, and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Tremonton
Stake Center, 660 North 300 East, Tremonton, with Bishop Jay Argyle officiating. Friends may
call Tuesday, September 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Internment in the Tremonton Riverview Cemetery, The Borup family suggests donations be made in Carl's memory to the General Missionary Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the doctors and staff of the Bear River Valley Care Center.
