Burrell Fenton Hansen was born October 7, 1918 at Ammon, Idaho to George Parley and Zenobia Anderson Hansen. He died on July 11, 2005 after a lengthy illness at Providence Assisted Living Center. Always an excellent student, he graduated with a Bachelor?s degree from Utah State Agricultural College; a Master?s degree from Purdue University, and a PhD from the University of Minnesota in the field of Mass Communications. While at the University of Minnesota, he met and married Patricia Wells. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. They subsequently had five children, but later divorced. Burrell spent his 36 year career at Utah State University. He pioneered broadcast education and broadcasting services resulting in KUSU-FM, the first university operated FM station in the state of Utah, and KUSU-TV. He helped foster the development of educational broadcasting throughout the Western States leading to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, now known as PBS Television. Burrell was an avid traveler. In 1948, he applied for a sabbatical, packed up his family and went to Strathclyde University in Scotland for a year. Later he went to Rhodes University in South Africa for a year. He has traveled much of the world since then, whenever he had the opportunity. He married Bernice Stevensen on August 24, 1991 in the Logan Temple. Burrell was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in many capacities and teaching positions. He and his wife, Bernice, served as officiators in the Logan Temple for many years. He is survived by his wife, Bernice, the love of his life; by his children: LeeAnn Hansen, Kathy Hansen, Tracie Norton, Scott Burrell Hansen, and Kerrie Doty; his brothers: Duane Hansen and Keith Hansen; and sister, Enid Clegg; and together they have 29 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the Logan Eighth Ward Chapel, 320 Lauralin Drive. Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
