Beverly Johansen Edvalson

June 29, 1925 — September 27, 2006

Beverly Johansen Edvalson, 81, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2006, in her North Logan home, hand in hand with her daughter Kristy. She was born June 29, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Andrew O. and Josephine Larson Johansen. When she was 4 years old, the family moved to Logan, Utah, where she worked along side her father who was the Safeway Store manager for over 25 years. She attended Logan schools and graduated from Logan High School. Following high school, she attended Utah State University where she graduated with a major in Journalism. After 2 years of teaching at North Rich High School in Laketown, she worked for the Deseret News. The Adams school here in Logan was her next place of employment and during the time she taught there, she met and fell in love with Donald K. Edvalson, her companion of 50 years. Don was from Union, Oregon and was attending Utah State University at the time. They were married in the Logan Temple on July 16, 1954 and soon after moved to Big Piney, Wyoming where they both taught school. They weren?t too fond of the cold weather there, so after 2 years, moved to Brigham City where Don taught school and Beverly had her own craft and hobby shop ?Donley?s? which was later changed to ?Edvalson?s Hobby Shop?. While in Brigham City they were blessed with the arrival of their 1st child ? a son, Donald Joseph Edvalson. Two years later a daughter, Kristy Joan Edvalson Anderson joined the family and the hobby shop was closed. Beverly decided it was more fun raising children than having a craft store! A move to Logan was next on the family?s agenda and while living there another son ? Scott Joseph Edvalson arrived. ?Come back to Box Elder County? was the School Superintendent?s call, so to Tremonton for 18 years they went. Don was principal at several county schools and Beverly enjoyed raising her 3 children. In 1986 after all 3 children were married, Don and Beverly decided to return to Logan so they could fulfill a life long dream of serving in the Logan Temple. Because of failing health, in 2000 Don and Beverly moved to North Logan and lived with their daughter and son-in-law Jim and Kristy Anderson and their family. Kristy and her family cared for both parents until their deaths. In the years of her married life, Beverly served in many positions in the LDS church including Relief Society President and President of the young Women?s organization in 4 different wards. She wrote the ward newsletter in various wards for over 25 years and helped to make many craft projects for many Relief Society Homemaking events. She wrote road shows and programs for both church and school. While in Brigham, she taught Seminary to the Indians at the Intermountain Indian School. Beverly served in the Logan Temple as Supervisor for 6 years and truly loved this and all of her many other various church callings. Community wise she served in the PTA and was chairman of various charitable drives. She was a director at the Box Elder County Fair, where she and her family made and designed the Tremonton community display for 4 years. She loved writing poetry and has blessed many lives with this talent. She loved antiques and owls, but her greatest joy was collecting dolls and sharing them with others. She enjoyed doing genealogy and has made wonderful genealogy and scrapbooks for her children and grandchildren. Her eternal companion, Don, passed away on May 20, 2004. She is survived by her 3 children, Donald Joseph Edvalson Suzanne Davis of Gainsville, Florida; Kristy Joan Anderson Jim of North Logan, Utah; and Scott Joseph Edvalson of Logan, Utah. Ten grandchildren: Andrew, Sarah, Dallin, Steven, Leslie and Joseph Edvalson of Florida; Krystalee, Jamilin, and Danielle Anderson of North Logan; and Randi Edvalson of Hyrum. Also surviving is a brother and sister-in-law, Don Johansen Mary Alla Clayton of Portland, Oregon and many dear friends that she truly loved Beverly was an amazing woman.
