Bertram Harry Stokes

May 16, 1913 — December 15, 2003

Logan ? Bertram Harry Stokes, Sr. passed away at his home on December 15, 2003 at the age of 90. He was born May 16, 1913 in Stone, Worcestershire, England to Harry Lewis and Edith Greaves Stokes. He is survived by a sister, Doris Grainger, of Stone, Worcestershire, England and his son Bert Stokes of North Logan. Bertram, Sr. married Winifred Emily Makin July 24, 1937 and they were later sealed in the Temple on April 7, 1949. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1994. Bertram learned the value of hard work as a young boy on his family farm in England, where he was also educated. He learned the trade of brick masonry and taught it to his son, Bert, and grandsons. Affectionately known as ?Pop? by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, he will be greatly missed. Pop was converted to the gospel at age 23 and was proud to say he was a member of the LDS Church. Pop was known as a great missionary everywhere he went. Winnie and Bert served two missions for the church, one being the British Isles Mission and the other the London South Mission. He worked at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City and was a tour guide on Temple Square for 14 years. He felt it an honor to have worked closely with many prophets and other leaders of the LDS Church. He truly felt it was a great blessing in his life, and has always treasured those memories. He loved his son and was appreciative of all that he did for him on a daily basis. He loved the gospel, his garden, family get-togethers and especially the game of golf. He is survived by his son Bertram Joyce Stokes of North Logan, 7 grandchildren: Mike Alice Stokes of Logan; Gail Stokes of Logan; Mark Stokes of Portland, Oregon; Kelly Todd Miller of Logan; Tammy Ron Priestley of Iowa; Becky Sergio Solis-Stokes of St. George, Utah, and Greg Andrea Stokes of Nibley; and 16 great grandchildren: Brittany Kevin Loveland, Kiera and Mykelle Stokes, Kaleb Anderson, Tori Tanner and Skyler Miller, Takara, Derek, Emily and Danni Priestley, Sienna and Maya Feb.2004 Solis-Stokes, Parker, Ashton and Ellie Stokes.
He will be missed by his friends at the Senior Center and by those who knew him best. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends and family may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, Salt Lake City. Condolences to the family may be extended online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
Pop, we love and will miss you, your stories, your kisses and your firm hand shakes. Pop, keep on swinging your clubs!
Love, Your Family.
