Bertha Jackson Diaz

June 27, 1941 — May 8, 2024

Hyrum

Bertha Jackson Diaz (82), affectionately known as Granny by many, passed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father in the early hours of May 8, 2024. With her innate gift of befriending all she met, Bertha leaves behind a strong legacy of service, friendship, family, and unwavering love.

Born in Lewiston UT to her parents Laura Van Orden and Albert Jackson, Bertha was the eldest of six. With a zest for life and desire to see the world, she took to traveling shortly after graduating high school in 1959. It was while working as a car hop in Corpus Christi TX where she met her husband, Jose Diaz.

Married on November 15, 1967, Joe and Bertha raised their three children Melanee, Joe Jr., and Jason. They predominantly resided in Lewiston UT and Corpus Christi TX, where Bertha worked for 20 years at Singer Sewing Center. They spent 45 years together in marriage before Joe passed in 2013.

A devoted member to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Bertha had a fierce testimony. She served in many callings including within the Relief Society, Young Women’s, Primary, and providing support to her spouse during his time as Bishop. She held strong beliefs to the covenants made in the temple and of family history and was a top indexer in her ward and stake.

Bertha had a unique eye for color, unafraid to showcase bright hues and bold designs. She was accomplished in quilting, sewing, embroidery and crochet. She delighted in gifting her projects to those she loved and donating to those in need. Bertha took great pleasure in ministering to others.

A loyal pen pal, Bertha took the time to write constant letters to friends and family alike. A Granny to 9 and a Great-Granny to 8, she never missed sending out a personalized message on their birthdays or simply to reach out and remind them of her love.

Bertha loved spending time with and serving others. Tenaciously joyful and generous with the perfect dash of stubborn, our Granny was truly one of a kind. As bittersweet as it is for us to lose her Earthside, how glorious must the reunion be in Heaven. This isn’t a goodbye but an Until We Meet Again.

Many thanks are given to the compassion bestowed upon Bertha and her family over the years through the members of her various wards. To know her was to love her, and she was loved by many.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, her brother LaVern (Midge) Jackson and K Arnold (Gail) Jackson, her sister Pauline Jackson and her husband Jose Diaz.

She is survived by her brothers Morris (Beverly) Jackson, DeMar (Connie) Jackson, brother in law Jessie Mendoza, sister in laws Evangelina Silvas, Adela Mendoza; her children Melanee (Stephen) Bingham, Joe Jr. (Jinger) Diaz, and Jason Diaz; her grandchildren April (Joe) Wheatley, Kathryn (Jeff) Harris, Tyler Bingham, Brian Bingham, Jacob (Laurel) Diaz, Anna (Zackary) Stopper, Alayna Diaz, Abigail Diaz, and Joshua Diaz; and her great-grandchildren Sarah, Violet, Grant, Jonathan, Nolan, and Lucy Wheatley and Rachael and Liam Harris.
