Bernice Hatch Wood Butterfield, 82, of Lehi, Utah passed away on Oct 1, 2017 peacefully at home surrounded by family after a long struggle with dementia.
Bernice was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Feb 10, 1935 to Kenneth M. Hatch and Lucille Meldrum Hatch. She was the oldest of four daughters. She grew up in Randolph, Utah and graduated from South Rich High School. She married Leland Charles Wood in the Logan Temple on March 15, 1954. They had three children, Lorraine, Lois and Kris. Leland passed away on March 17, 1964. Bernice married Lawrence O’dell Butterfield on Dec 27, 1969. They had two children, Tonya and David.
Bernice graduated from Stevens-Henager Business College in 1966 and worked to support her young family. She was hard working and provided for her family through gardening, home canning and sewing. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and other handwork and crafts.
Bernice is survived by her three sisters, Myra Carpenter, Fern Kimber, Kay Bell, her 5 children, Lorraine Johnson, Lois (Chris) Banks, Kris Wood, Tonya (Doug) Roy, and David (Kim) Butterfield, 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by both husbands, Leland and Lawrence, one grandson, and two great-grandsons.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, October 5 from 6-8 pm at the LDS chapel located at 6301 S. 2300 E. Holladay, Utah. The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6 at the same location with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am with the service at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at the Laketown Cemetery.
