Beatrice Barker Nyman

September 13, 1917 — June 16, 2011

Beatrice Barker Nyman, 93, quietly left for heaven June 16, 2011. She was born 13 September 1917 in Newton, Cache County, Utah. She was the second of five children of Jesse B. and Archa C. Barker. Bea married Virgil T. Nyman on February 4, 1941 in Logan, Utah ? solemnized in the Logan Temple. Virgil preceded her in death on 19 March 1989.
Beatrice received her early education in the Newton schools, and graduated from North Cache High School in 1935. She attended Henager Business College in Salt Lake City, and afterward worked in Logan for a number of years in office work and secretarial capacities.
A member of the LDS Church, Bea served in positions of leadership and teaching in all the Church auxiliaries. She was an active member of the Ralph Smith Camp of DUP. In the early years of the town, she and Virgil provided 14 years of community service as Treasurer and Clerk for the North Logan Town Board.
Bea loved flowers and gardening and took pleasure and pride in her home and yard. She was a good seamstress and enjoyed music, poetry, reading, and cooking -- often entertaining family and friends. She was a hard worker, good gardener and dedicated homemaker. With her wry sense of humor and cheerful, friendly personality she cultivated many friendships in her lifetime. She was so thankful for the devotion and companionship she and Virgil shared for 48 years.
Although Bea and Virgil did not have children of their own, many claim her as their second mom. Her love and influence have continued through her long years, helping and changing lives. The family extends a special thanks to April Gilmour who has been Bea?s ?right hand man? in her declining years. Bea is survived by her sister Zilpha Barker Bird of Pocatello, Idaho, and 46 nieces and nephews. Bea was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Theron and Keith, and her brother Quinten Barker, 91, who died 15 days before her. In accord with Bea?s wishes there will be a short family service at the 1st North Ward Building at 1105 East 2100 North in North Logan at 12 noon on Tuesday June 21st with interment following in the Logan Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family on line at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
