Arta Lloyd Balls was born July 2, 1927 in Logan, Utah, the son of Arta Jesse and Leona McNeil Balls. He is the second of 5 children. When a youngster, his family moved to Hyde Park. He attended grade school in Hyde Park and graduated from North Cache in Richmond. After High School, Lloyd proudly served his county in Korea. He married Barbara Bodrero on March 10, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. They had 6 children and were later divorced. In January of 1971, Lloyd married Paulene Price. They had 4 children and were divorced. Lloyd was a very hard worker throughout his life. He was a farmer in Hyde Park, Utah and Dayton, Idaho; an Irrigation Director in Quincy, Washington; worked at Thiokol and the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham; and delivered rural mail in Mendon. He also worked construction until a fall ended his working days. He loved playing the guitar and harmonica and singing with his wife and children. He especially enjoyed yodeling. He made many children and adults happy at Christmas time by playing Santa. He had a special talent for learning and could speak several languages. Lloyd was always active in the LDS church. He holds the office of a Seventy and a High Priest. His greatest joy was working with the Scouts. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, along with his two eldest sons. He loved spending time with his families, animals especially horses, and deer hunting. He is survived by his children: Stephen Gloria, Hyrum; Bonnie Coy Ashby, Fielding; Brenda LaMar Oyler, Arcadia, Missouri; Bruce Helen, Phoenix; John Jody, Ogden; Jason, Ogden; Jennifer Dave Johnson, North Ogden; and Jeremy, Ogden. He is also survived by a sister, Sharon Melvin Carlos Henrie, North Logan; a sister-in-law, Frances Balls Danielsen, Hyde Park; a brother-in-law, Joseph Glen Johnson, Hyde Park; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two baby sons, one sister, Edna Mae Johnson, and two brothers, Robert James and Ralph Verl Balls. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at the Logan City Cemetery with military honors. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com . The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Sunshine Terrace, especially those on Wing Three, for their loving care of Lloyd the past several years. He will be greatly missed.
