Arnon Chipman Anthon

Our wonderful father, grandpa and great-grandpa returned home to Heavenly Father, and his beautiful companion, Lillian on March 2, 2013. Arnon was born July 13, 1923 in Kaysville, Utah to Verna Chipman Anthon and David Clifford Anthon. He was the third of 7 children. Arnon's one surviving sibling, Harold Deon, lives in Roy, Utah.
While growing up, Arnon lived in Magna, Garfield, and Kaysville, Utah. Arnon's father, David Clifford passed away when Arnon was 10 years old. From a very young age Arnon worked at various jobs providing much needed income for the family.
Arnon graduated from Davis High School, excelling in cross-country track. In 1941 Arnon enlisted in the Army-Air Corps and served in the 6th Emergency Rescue Squadron Pacific theater during World War II.
Upon returning from the war, he met Lillian Duersch at a valentines dance and they were married 5 months later on July 3, 1946. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple. Four children were born to Lillian and Arnon. Gary Karen, Larry Carol, Arnon Jr. Susan, and Katie Behm.
Arnon reentered the military Air Force a year after marrying Lillian. Arnon took his family to various states and to Europe during 21 years in the Air Force.
Arnon retired from the Air Force in 1964, moving to Cache Valley to be near Lillian's family. Together they created a loving, engaging home for their adult children and their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arnon was an avid scouter starting in 1959. He served as camp ranger and staff at Camp Hunt, Wapiti Winter Camp, Wilderness Camp, and Aspen Ridge helping with many merit badges. He attended the adult training at Philmont Scout Ranch. He enjoyed many years helping many scouts through their scouting and order of the arrow experiences. He took scouts on two 50 mile hikes, one in Germany and one to Yellowstone and a 50 mile canoe trip to the boundary waters of Minnesota. In time, he received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts.
Arnon held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Often his wife, Lillian served with him. He had a strong understanding and desire to give service and charity to others. He displayed these qualities throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 siblings and his beloved wife Lillian.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Smithfield 2nd Ward Chapel, 675 West 200 North. There will be a viewing prior to the services at the church from 11:30 to 12:30. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Scout Fund.
