Almira LaRue Rudy Lewis

October 1, 1934 — June 15, 2018

Almira LaRue Rudy Lewis passed away peacefully on June 15, 2018 after losing her second battle with cancer. She was being lovingly cared for by her children in her daughter Jennifer’s home in Millville, Utah. Her family already misses her shining countenance, her warm smile, her distinctive laugh and infectious good humor.
LaRue was born Oct 1, 1934 in Roosevelt, Utah to Phillip Owen and Blanche Cloward Rudy. The first girl born to a family of 5 boys, she was cherished and loved. Two years later she was blessed with a sister, LaWana, whom she loved dearly. LaRue’s parents and 4 brothers preceded her in death.
San Jose, California was her home town. LaRue became active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at a young age and gained a strong testimony of the church. She attended Brigham Young University and loved learning. She excelled as a student and was a gifted writer.
LaRue met Henry Doyle Lewis at a church dance while he was stationed with the army in Fort Ord, CA. It was a whirlwind courtship and they married in the Salt Lake Temple, August 28, 1953. Their first child, a daughter, was born while she was living with her parents in San Jose and Doyle was fulfilling his military service in Germany. Doyle and LaRue lived in San Jose, CA, Rigby, ID, North Logan, UT, Fairview, ID, Mendon, UT and Wellsville, UT. They had friends everywhere! Five daughters and three sons were born to them, and 2 additional sons came to live with them later on.
Her life, and her passion, was her family. Her favorite thing to do was be with them. She loved getting together for holidays, camping trips, picnics, vacations, and reunions. They always seemed to evolve into game nights where she usually won. Her favorite game for many years was Canasta and everyone wanted to be Grandma’s partner! She also loved Zilch and Five Crowns. Aside from her family, she also loved reading, crocheting, and researching her genealogy and family history. Throughout her life, she served in the LDS Church in many capacities. She loved the gospel and her Savior Jesus Christ. She and Doyle were Temple workers together until her health failed.
She is survived by two of her siblings: brother Lloyd Bradley Rudy and sister Martha Lawana Rudy Hall (Del); and her children: Raylene LaRue Hendricks (Randall), Lori Kay Bartholomew (Guy), Susan Jane Anderson (Thayne), Joel Arlin Lewis (Cindi), Valeri Hemming, Bret Owen Lewis (Teri), Jennifer Jenson, Aaron Oliver Lewis (Lori), Patrick Cadman and Royice Harrison. She also leaves behind 35 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with her family during a viewing Thursday, June 21, 6-8 pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E 400 N, Logan, Utah. Funeral Services will be held at the LDS church located at 460 South 100 East in Mendon Utah at 12:00 pm, Friday, June 22, 2018. There will be another viewing from 10:30 – 11:30 am prior to services. Interment services will be at the Mendon Cemetery, 95 N. Main, Mendon, Utah following the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, LaRue would prefer friends donate to the American Cancer Society and American Diabetes Association.
