Allisa Corinne Berry, 18, daughter of Bob and Elise Berry of Hyrum, peacefully left this mortal life January 6th, 2012, having valiantly endured the trials associated with brain cancer.
Allisa was born in Little Rock Arkansas August 2, 1993. She was 17 days late and weighed exactly 8 lbs. Exactness became a theme for Allisa very early in life and was one of her lasting attributes.
Throughout her short stay in mortality Allisa was extremely loyal; whether it was family, friends, or pets – she never wavered in her firmness. She loved anything beautiful and enjoyed taking pictures most everywhere she went. Allisa loved to clean – clutter drove her crazy and she would often be found straightening the house, even on days when she didn't feel well. In Junior High, Allisa learned responsibility and leadership skills serving as a student body officer at Roy Junior High School. She loved long distance running which brought her much joy. Just prior to her sophomore year, Allisa moved with her family to Hyrum. Three months later, she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer and underwent surgery to remove the tumor. She spent the subsequent six months enduring radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Despite missing several months of school, Allisa worked hard through the next two years and was able to graduate with her classmates at Mountain Crest High School in June of 2011.
Allisa loved working with the special needs youth at the high school and forged a special friendship with many. Due to her experience with cancer, Allisa chose to look at life differently. She always tried to focus on those things that matter most. She loved her friends and spending time making cherished memories with her family. She taught by example that serving others is always better than serving yourself. Allisa loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She received her Young Women's Medallion and Patriarchal Blessing at the age of 14 and served in leadership positions within her Young Women's organization.
Little brought Allisa more joy than the opportunity to speak to and teach her fellow young people – bearing her own personal witness of the power of being positive and trusting your Savior in the face of adversity. Her two favorite quotes were, "Suck it up and deal with it" and "Come what may and love it!"
Allisa believed in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, and in doing good to all men. Indeed we can say she followed the admonition of Paul. She believed all things, she hoped all things, she endured many things, and eventually endured all things. If there was anything virtuous, lovely, of good report, or praiseworthy – Allisa sought after those things.
We will miss your spunk and sweet, sweet smile our beautiful girl. Thank you for setting such a wonderful example for each of us to follow. Give your little sister and brother a hug and a kiss and serve our Heavenly Father well. We will see you soon!
Allisa is survived by her parents Bob and Elise Berry Hyrum and siblings; BriAnne Drake Thomson, Justin Camille Berry, Lauren Aaron Howe, younger sisters Melanie and Emma, two nephews, and her grandparents.
