Allen Gary Tanner

Grouse Creek ? Allen Gary Tanner was born April 10, 1949 in Brigham City, Utah. The son of Herbert A. Tanner and Vera May Kimber Tanner. He was killed in Grouse Creek, Utah on November 24, 2006 in a horse related accident, doing what he loved, riding his horse and tending his cattle. Allen attended grade school in Grouse Creek, high school in Brigham City, and college at Weber State University.
After college he returned to Grouse Creek and spent the rest of his life in cattle ranching. He managed Tanner & Tanner Enterprises, a cattle ranch, for over 20 years. He also worked for the State of Utah and Nevada as a State brand inspector and as a bangs vaccination technician. Allen had a passion for TV sports, particularly baseball, football, and basketball. He loved a good rib eye steak, a good buffet, talking and traveling with friends. He also appreciated a good horse and quality cattle.
When Allen was very young his dad called him ?Allie Goober? and the nickname ?Goober? or ?Goob? stuck with him all his life.
He was a member of the LDS Church serving as the finance clerk, which he enjoyed very much.
Surviving are his sisters Marjorie Thompson Arlin Glines, Norma Dean Clark, Eileen Dane Johnsen, and Barbara Dougherty, all of Brigham City, Utah, and Merle Clayton White of Orem, Utah. He is also survived by his brothers Floyd Joyce Tanner of Murray, Utah, and Darrell Laura Tanner of North Ogden, Utah. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Audrey Vernon Teeter and Shirley Tanner, and one brother, Donald Bobbie Tanner.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 30th at 1:00 pm in the Grouse Creek LDS Chapel. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home located at 111 N. 100 E. in Tremonton, and from 11-12:30 pm prior to the services in the Grouse Creek LDS chapel. Interment will be in the Grouse Creek Cemetery following the funeral.
