Allen Reed Jensen

Allen Reed Jensen Allen Reed Jensen passed away December 9, 2002, after a courageous battle against organ rejection. He was born September 13, 1950, to Reed C. and Pauline Michaelis Jensen in Tremonton, Utah. Allen graduated as class valedictorian from Bear River High School. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Japan Central Mission. Following his mission he graduated magna cum laude fromUtah State University with a degree in chemistry. He married Carlyn L. Phinney on June 6, 1975, in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with three exceptional children, Ashley, Kirstin and Christopher. Allen graduated with honors from George Washington University School of Law in Washington, DC. Following graduation he clerked for The Honorable Judge Jack R. Miller of the U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals in Washington DC. In 1978 he joined the law firm of Fox, Edwards and Gardiner in Salt Lake City. In 1984 the patent law firm of Workman, Nydegger and Jensen now Seeley was formed where he remained a partner until 1994. Allen moved back to Washington, DC in 1997 where he was a partner in the patent law firm of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett and Dunner. At the time of his death he had relocated to the firm?s Palo Alto, California office. He was an Ajunct Professor of Law at the J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University from 1985 to 1994. He served as President of National Inventors Hall of Fame, Chairman of the National Counsel of Intellectual Property Law, and President of the Patent, Trademark and Copyright Section of the Utah State Bar. He has published many articles in technical and legal publications. Allen was a kind and generous man who gave willingly of his time and shared his many talents in teaching and mentoring young attorneys. He was also a gifted musician and loved playing the organ. Allen is survived by his children of whom he was extremely proud. Also survived by his father, Reed Carolyn Jensen; four siblings, Annette Michael Bell; Jerry Dot Jensen; Michelle Lynn Martineau and Dale Gloria Jensen, whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Pauline. The family wishes to thank his law firm for their understanding and support and to dear friends, Jean Fordis, Jerry Voight, Julia Matheson, Bradley Gaugh, and Sarah Barnett for their compassionate care and service to his family during the last week of his life. We also give heartfelt thanks to the donor family, whose courageous gift of life allowed Allen almost seven additional years of life. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2002, 12:00 noon at the Tremonton LDS 3rd/8th Ward Chapel, 9590 North 6800 West, Tremonton. Friends may call Thursday, December 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and Friday, December 13th from 10:30 to 11:40 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Garland City Cemetery. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the LDS Hospital Liver Transplant Department, 324 10th Avenue, Suite 124, Salt Lake City, Utah 84103.
