Alice Fitzgerald Weeks

September 30, 1913 — March 31, 2008

Alice Fitzgerald Weeks passed away peacefully March 31, 2008. She was born September 30, 1913 and was 94 years of age. She was the oldest of three children born to James Fitzgerald and Helma Malin. After growing up in Salt Lake City, she moved with her family to Smithfield, Utah where she spent the remainder of her life. Alice married George Riches Weeks April 16, 1930 in the Logan LDS Temple and they enjoyed 73 loving years together. They raised their family of four sons: Richard Clair deceased, Stanley, Darwin and Ronald. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions throughout the years, such as, President and Counselor in ward and stake YWMIA, and various Relief Society and Primary positions. She loved to sing and joined the choir at age 14 and continued for over 60 years. Together with her husband George, they served as Dance Directors on a Ward, Stake and District level for over 20 years, literally teaching thousands of youth and adults the art of dancing. They served as dance directors until the church discontinued the dance program. Also with her husband they served at the Logan LDS Temple, where she loved assisting many new brides as they sealed their eternal marriages. Alice received the Certificate of Merit along with the love of her life, George, for their service to Smithfield and surrounding areas in teaching the art and appreciation of dance in conjunction with the National Bicentennial Celebration. Alice considered all she knew to be her friend and they reciprocated. She loved her grandchildren and they appreciated her special hugs and the excitement she expressed when seeing them. She was a pillar of strength in caring for others, especially her beloved husband. At the age of 90, she accomplished a life-long dream to visit Ireland, her father's ancestral home, and was an inspiration to her special relatives and all she met. At 94, she had achieved the age of her husband at his passing four years earlier. She is survived by three sons, Stanley Irene Weeks, Pleasant View, Utah, Darwin JoAnn Weeks, Indio, California, Ronald Louise Weeks, Mapleton, Utah. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard Clair Margie Weeks, Clearfield, Utah; and a sister, Irene Zuppann, and brother, James Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, April 4, 2008 in the Smithfield 10th Ward Chapel, 345 East 300 South, with Bishop Peter Krusi conducting. Friends and family may call Thursday evening, April 3, at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday morning at the church prior to services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
