Alice Chambers Poppleton

September 26, 1917 — April 17, 2006

Alice Chambers Poppleton, 88, was born on September 26, 1917, in Smithfield, Utah to George and Tacy Toolson Chambers. She passed away on Monday, April 17, 2006 in Roy, Utah. She married Garnel Peterson Poppleton for time and eternity in the Logan Temple on June 7, 1939. She and Garnel had two daughters: Nancy Susann and June Alice. Garnel passed away on December 25, 2001. She obtained her Bachelor?s degree from Utah State University and taught school for thirty-nine years. Thirty-eight in the Cache County School District and one year in Ogden. She served as an officiator in the Logan Temple. She was especially proud of the fact that she was able to serve with her mother. At the time that they served they were only the second mother and daughter to have served at the same time. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions through the years. Some of her favorites were Sunday School Teacher, Primary Teacher and the Stake Sunday School Board. She loved children and teaching children more than anything. She always said that the thing she liked best about teaching was being able to watch the children grow and develop and learn. She always looked forward to each new school year starting. She had a phenomenal memory for names and remembered the names of all of the children that she taught in those thirty-nine years of teaching. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garnel, and her brother, Ferris. She is survived by her two daughters: Nancy Don Wilson, Roy; June Terry Thedell, San Diego, California; three grandchildren: Brian and Greg Thedell, San Diego, California; and Lisa Tom Grieve, Provo; and one step-granddaughter: Laura Wilson, Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by one brother and five sisters: Lennis Chambers, West Jordan; Aileen Ray Minkler, Logan; Mary Bair, Glendale, Arizona; Tacy Oral Ballam, Kaysville; Ruth Deane Harrison, Hyrum; and Faye LeGrande Shupe, Hyde Park. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends and family may call from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to services.
