Kokomo, Indiana ? Alice Marler, 90, former Lewiston, Utah resident, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana. She was born September 22, 1912 in Preston, Idaho to Joseph Marion and Nellie Bell Perkins. She married Virgil A. Marler in the Logan LDS Temple on September 23, 1931. He passed away on October 10, 1982. Alice enjoyed crocheting, knitting and was very good at quilting. Over the years, she helped many people learn how to quilt. She also loved to square dance and did so with her husband for many years. She was active in 4-H, teaching youth how to sew. She was a big help to her husband in farm activities, once her sons had married and left home, including driving tractors during spring planting and driving trucks during summer and fall harvest. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kokomo, Indiana and was very active in the gospel all her life, holding many positions in ward and stake activities. She served two short term missions with her husband, one in St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada and one in Alexandria, Louisiana. She was loved very much by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by her sons: Lyman Audrey Marler, Kokomo, Indiana; and Nathan Shirley Marler, Dolan Springs, Arizona; one brother: Ray Loraine Perkins, Roy, Utah; and three sisters: Thelma Griffith, Preston, Idaho; Dorothy Stephen Miller, Ogden, Utah; and Nellie Dee Boyce, Clifton, Idaho. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Becky Marler, Kokomo, Indiana; Dennis Marler, Kokomo, Indiana; Dee Marler, Kokomo, Indiana; Terry Marler, Goodrich, Michigan; Jillyn Prudent, Kimberly, Idaho; Natalie Wheeler, Twin Falls, Idaho; Christy Merritt, Farmington, Utah; Steve Marler, Preston, Idaho; Darrel Marler, Sparks, Nevada; 9 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Virgil, one son and daughter-in-law, Jene and Nadene Marler, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lewiston Second Ward Chapel, 10 South 1600 West, with Bishop Brooks Tarbet conducting. Friends and family may call Friday morning from 11:30 to 1:30 at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the LDS Missionary Fund.
