Albert Thomas Gittins

November 20, 1923 — December 29, 2001

Albert Thomas Gittins returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 29, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 20, 1923 in Smithfield, Utah to Thomas Henry Gittins and Katie Louise Stone Gittins. Albert spent his early years in Smithfield where he attended school and then at the age of 16 moved with his family to Lewiston, where he spent the remainder of his years. He had a great love for farming and made this his profession along with working at the Del Monte plant in Franklin. He loved being in the out of doors and especially fishing and camping with his brothers and sisters. He became an avid bowler, spending many years in leagues at the bowling alley in Preston, where he made many friends and enjoyed those he bowled with. He was nominated to the PBA Hall of Fame in 1997. He was very proud of this award. He spent 3 years in the Marine Corps in World War II, never having a leave. He was always close to the areas of full combat. He is survived by three brothers and four sisters, Melvin Gittins, St. George; Loyal Gittins, Richmond; Viola Wright, Lewiston; Dora Boman, Layton; Annetta LaMont, Preston, Idaho; Odell Gittins, Burley, Idaho and Odean McCann, Smithfield and one sister-in-law, Ruth Gittins, Wellsville. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. A family service will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at 12:00 noon at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield with a family viewing at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be extended through www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
