Alan Harmon Johnson

Alan Harmon Johnson, 68 of Smithfield, passed away Saturday September 12, 2009 at his home in Smithfield. He was born August 21, 1941 in Logan a son of Harmon and Leah Benson Johnson. Alan grew up in Smithfield and attended Smithfield Summit Elementary, Smithfield Jr. High and graduated from North Cache High School in 1959. Alan worked at Cache Valley Diary, Thiokol and Clearfield Cheese. He retired from Utah State University Facilities Maintenance Dept. in 2005.
Alan loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling and barbeques. All of these he did and enjoyed with his family.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held several callings from scouts, home teacher, High Priest and counselor in the Sunday School. Alan married his sweetheart, Geraldine Smith on September 6, 1963 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had 5 children: Ted & Gaylene Johnson of Richmond; Denise Johnson of Logan; Rod & Becky Johnson of Richmond; Brenda & Scott Jeppesen of River Heights and Dana & Jordan Bolton of Logan. They also have 8 grandchildren, Kory, Kendall, Kayla, Adam, Jaxon, Carter, Jadee and Callie.
Alan is also survived by his mother, Leah Benson Johnson of Smithfield; a brother, Clair & Faye Johnson of Connorsville, IN, two sisters, Mary Lee & Patrick Warren of Hyde Park and Linnea Earl of Smithfield. He was preceded in death by his father, Harmon Johnson; mother and father in law, Dean & Aldean Smith and a brother in law, Eddie Smith.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Smithfield 4th Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South. Friends may call at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm. and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
