Norma Jean Fonnesbeck Bergeson

December 6, 1931 — October 13, 2022

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, Norma Jean Fonnesbeck Bergeson returned home to her Heavenly Father on October 13, 2022 at the age of 90. Mom was born on December 6, 1931 to Willis S. and Gwen Bair Fonnesbeck. She was the fourth of eight children. Mom grew up on a farm in Smithfield. Mom shared many memories of working hard on the farm, also of time playing in the barn, making homemade holiday decorations, and playing outdoor games with the neighborhood children. Sundays were spent making ice cream and doughnuts for when Grandpa Henry and Grandma Etta came to visit.

Mom attended Summit school and North Cache High School. Her last job before retiring at the age of 70 was working part time in the Library of Summit Elementary School.

On December 3, 1952 she married Garold Clark Bergeson. Together they had seven children. After her divorce she went back to school at USU, and completed the Manpower Program. After completing the program, she got a job with Schreiber Cheese as Accounts Payable Clerk and later worked in the Human Resource Office.

Mom was an exceptional seamstress, artist, and cook. Her favorite hobby was gardening, she had a gift for growing beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed crocheting and many people through the years have been the recipients of her beautiful afghans, dishtowels, hot pads and much loved scrubbies. Mom was a member of the Knotty Knitters for many years.

Mom set a great example of service for her family. She volunteered at the food bank, helped with the Smithfield Senior Citizens Luncheons and was always willing to give her neighbors a helping hand. She enjoyed the many friendships and associations she garnered through service.

Norma is survived by her children: Clark (Rhonda) Bergeson, Una (Elbert) Sweeten, Jean (Dave) DeGasser, Clair (Arlene) Bergeson, 16 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her brother DeMar and sisters Anna, Dixie and Lois.

Norma was preceded in death by her son Kim Bergeson, daughters Jan Bergeson and Lori Glenn, and son-in-law Jeff Glenn. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three of her siblings.
